The battery: the heart of your car
- Avoid fully discharging the battery.
- Prefer charging up to around 80% instead of always going to 100%.
This is called a healthy charging cycle. It may seem like a small adjustment, but it makes a big difference for your battery’s longevity.
Fewer moving parts, but still points of attention
Still, there are a few areas where extra attention is required:
- Tires
EVs are heavier than traditional cars, which causes extra wear on the tires. Regularly check tire pressure and replace them on time to stay safe and efficient on the road.
- Brakes
Electric cars use regenerative braking, which reduces brake wear. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need maintenance. Have them checked regularly to make sure they remain in optimal condition.
- Fluids
You’ll still find a few fluids in an EV:
– coolant for the battery
– windshield washer fluid
– brake fluid
These need to be checked and topped up regularly, just like in a traditional car.
